This Wednesday’s Wonder: Shoe Alley in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
In Los Angeles, a pair of shoes hanging from a telephone wire has a couple of meanings: a bully could have thrown some kid’s shoes up there. Or perhaps a kid angry that his parents bought him ridiculous shoes threw his own shoes up there. Still, others speculate that a set of shoes alerts prospective drug buyers that they can purchase said drugs from a gang on that block.
Then travel comes along and blows away all expectations of symbols and ideals we have.
Shoe Alley in Ljubljana, Slovenia is just that kind of place. Nobody really knows why those shoes are up there, but these Wondernuts don’t think it has to do with prospective drug purchasing (darn). Instead, it might just be a thing. Like how, Seattle’s gum wall became a “thing,” shoes just gathered until Ljubljana’s shoe-on-a-telephone-wire became a thing.
Ljubjana’s shoes: it’s not what you think.
So. Many. Shoes.
What do you think? Have you seen Ljubljana’s hundreds of shoes in Shoe Alley?
