This Wednesday’s Wonder: Čumil Can See up Them Shorts.
He’s the most famous non-famous person. Peeking out of a manhole like a man who found freedom from an oppressive regime, or like the guy who from Shawshank Redemption who swam to the promised land in a river of crap, Cumil pokes out just enough for visitors to stop and wonder. He might be the most famous statue in Bratislava. We were one of the many who wanted Cumil’s photo. There are plenty of theories why he was there: to commemorate the fall of Communism in Slovakia, to commemorate a war that took place in Bratislava’s underground, to commemorate the town creeper who liked to look up ladies’ skirts.
Nope. Just a guy peeking from the ground.
Cumil: Nobody would ever know you’re got the perfect spot to be a voyeur.Cumil can see right up them shorts. But, I’ll bet he never he’d be so famous. Tell us a time you saw an unusual statue!
